Distinguish three kinds of statement
| Kind of statement | Example | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Personal experience | “I felt calmer after the meeting” | Who is speaking, when, and about which experience? |
| Imagery | “Nav represents the past” | How does the author define the idea? |
| Research information, when research is cited | Participants, measurements and results | Where is the original, what was studied and what were the limitations? |
Check the basis of the conclusion
If an author cites research, open the source. Check who was studied, what was measured and which limitations were reported. The conclusion should match the study.
